Measure to block $2 million truck insurance requirement fails

An amendment that would have blocked a provision to more than double required minimum trucking insurance coverage from $750,000 to $2 million was turned down for a vote Tuesday by Democratic lawmakers.

Introduced earlier this week by U.S. Rep. Mike Bost, R-Illinois, the amendment would have deleted a provision included in the $1.5 billion Moving America Act – the U.S. House version of the surface transportation reauthorization bill – that was added during the bill’s markup earlier this month by U.S. Rep. Chuy Garcia, D-Illinois.

The insurance hike provision therefore remains in the legislation, which is expected to be approved later this week on the House floor. The legislation must then be reconciled with the Republican-controlled Senate’s version of the bill.
