Hurricane Elsa is cruising across the Caribbean, centered just 100 miles southeast of the Dominican Republic as of 8 a.m. ET Saturday. Elsa’s sustained winds were at 75 mph, making it a Category 1 hurricane, and it’s heading to the northwest with a forward speed of 31 mph.

The hurricane could hit the western end of Haiti Saturday afternoon or evening, followed by Cuba Sunday. Elsa still has a good chance of a southern Florida landfall late Monday or early Tuesday, probably as a strong tropical storm, producing wind and flood damage.
