Breaking: Charges dropped against trucker in $20M marijuana bust at US-Canada border

A U.S. federal judge dismissed the criminal case against a truck driver accused of attempting to smuggle $20 million of marijuana from Canada to the United States.

U.S. Magistrate Jeremiah McCarthy dismissed the case against Prajbot Nagra, 26, during a hearing this afternoon in Buffalo, New York, at the request of a federal prosecutor.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Misha Coulson did not explain her request to drop the charges against Nagra.

U.S. authorities will transport Nagra to the Peace Bridge border crossing later today. From there, Nagra will return to Canada.

Nagra, a Canadian resident, was arrested on June 26 after U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers said they found $20 million worth of marijuana in his trailer. He told investigators the wasn’t aware of the marijuana, court documents show.
